Airport checks

Checks on arrival

Checks on arrival

Passports

A passport check is carried out on all passengers arriving from countries outside the European Union, or from EU countries that do not apply the rules laid down in the Schengen Treaty.

To speed up controls:

If you are 14 and you are a European citizen, we recommend that you always travel with a biometric passport. This will allow you to check documents needed for direct flights or from countries outside the European Union by accessing the ABC gates.

Customs

Declare to the airport customs authorities, at the time of the expatriation in countries not belonging to the European Union, the output of video cameras, cameras and in general objects more frequently purchased abroad, so that upon return the application of customs fees will not be required.

Travellers arriving from a country that is not a member of the European Union can carry with them, in their personal luggage and free of customs duties, purchases of a total value not exceeding €430 provided that they are not imports of a commercial nature. If you exceed the allowance of € 430, the goods are subject to customs duties.

TAX FREE is an advantage granted to citizens not resident/domiciled in the European Union, who can obtain a refund of VAT on goods purchased (minimum amount per invoice €154.94) under the following conditions:

  • The goods must be for personal or family use, must be transported in personal luggage and must not be commercial exports, which follow other rules and conditions;
  • The purchase must be shown on the invoice (tax free form), in which the goods, personal details of the traveller and details of their passport, or other equivalent document, must be described.

The goods purchased, the travel ticket and the related invoice must be presented at the same time to the customs office at the airport.

The Customs office shall stamp a customs endorsement on the invoice, which shall prove that the goods have left the territory of the Community. The invoice shall be returned within four months, provided that it is endorsed with customs exit visa.

On the other hand, the goods must leave the customs territory of the Community and be carried in personal luggage within three months from the purchase date.

Currency

The import and/or export of currency or other transferable securities and similar assets is free for a total amount of less than €10,000.

The service allows the user who accesses the Agency website to fill in, check, modify and print out the currency declaration that must be submitted to Customs, at the time of entry into or exit from the State, when transporting amounts equal to or greater than 10,000 Euros. The declaration can be viewed in Italian, English and French.

The declaration may also be made directly to the customs office before leaving the State or, on arrival, by following the red lane of the declaration.

Failing to declare will result in a breach of national and EU currency legislation.
